One thing we know for sure is that teenagers are interested in sex. We also know that talking to them about it is one of the best ways to protect their sexual health. We can’t rely on schools to do it and families need to be involved. But it’s a subject a lot of families struggle with, they don’t know where to start. The Talk is here to help.
The Talk is a take-home DVD that takes you step by step through a range of topics to include in your own family version of “the talk”. It is based on Nelly’s pioneering live shows on these issues and covers biology, physiology and sexually transmitted infections as well as the all-important - and often neglected – area of ethics and consent. It contains interviews with medical professionals, ambassadors of sexual health, comedians, people on the street and a range of prominent community members such as White Ribbon Ambassador Leigh Matthews, comedian Cal Wilson, broadcaster Anthony “Lehmo” Lehman and Associate Professor Anne Mitchell.
The DVD was created and written by Nelly Thomas in association with Melbourne Sexual Health and the Royal Women’s Hospital Centre Against Sexual Assault (CASA) and it aims to help parents, carers and teens talk about sexual health and ethics in an informed, but light-hearted manner.
The question is not if we need to talk to teens about sex, but how. The Talk will help you start.
“The Talk is a great balance of accurate information, humour and sensitivity. Absolutely vital viewing”
